I'm Amy Klassen, a Vernon, British Columbia resident, community advocate, and former 2026 Vernon City Council candidate.My experience spans government, business, agriculture, and community organizations, both here and abroad. These experiences have shaped my belief that good decisions begin with listening, understanding different perspectives, and recognizing how public policy affects everyday people.I'm passionate about affordability, strong public services, responsible growth, and building communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.This website is a place to share my thoughts, explore issues that matter, and stay connected with the people and community I call home.

I'm a renter, a worker, a daughter, a community volunteer, and a proud Métis woman with deep roots in the values of community, resilience, and looking out for one another.My experiences have taught me that people don't need impressive titles to have valuable perspectives. Sometimes the people closest to a problem have the clearest understanding of what needs to change.I believe in fairness, accountability, compassion, and practical solutions. I also believe that public service begins with listening, and that good leadership requires the courage to ask difficult questions.

Community Involvement
Being part of a community means more than simply living in it. I believe in contributing where I can, supporting local organizations, and helping create opportunities for people to connect.I'm actively involved in the local Métis community, serving on the board of our Métis society, and have participated in political, civic, and community initiatives throughout the North Okanagan.In 2026, I ran for Vernon City Council. Although I wasn't elected, the experience gave me a deeper appreciation for our community, the people who contribute to it, and the challenges we face together.
Professional Experience & Education
I've worked in agriculture, small business, hospitality, non-profits, and government. I've lived and worked abroad, returned to school as an adult, and experienced firsthand what it means to navigate life's challenges while trying to build a secure future.I hold a Business Administration diploma from Okanagan College, with a focus on human resources, a Geographic Information Systems certificate, an Assisting Individuals in Crisis Certificate, among other professional development credentials.My professional and personal experiences have given me an appreciation for evidence-based decisions, responsible financial management, and the importance of understanding how policies affect people in practice.
Beyond Work & Community
Outside of work and volunteering, I enjoy gardening, kayaking, creating art, and beadwork. I appreciate the natural beauty of the North Okanagan and the opportunities our region provides to connect with the land and one another.
